Our Approach to Holistic Development

At Grammy’s Playhouse Preschool, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow and thrive in all areas of their life. From exploring textures in sensory bins to experimenting with water, sand, and mud kitchens, sensory play stimulates a child’s senses and supports their development in every area. Through our thoughtfully designed curriculum, we also focus on developing key traits, such as gratitude, problem-solving, and compassion, with each month highlighting a specific value to help your child grow emotionally and socially.

 

Here’s how we incorporate holistic development into our daily program:

• Physical Growth: We encourage active play, fine motor activities, and outdoor exploration to build strong bodies and coordination. Sensory play helps develop motor skills as children scoop, pour, pinch, and manipulate different materials.

• Emotional Development: Sensory play provides opportunities for children to self-soothe, regulate their emotions, and express themselves in a calming, hands-on way. We also create a supportive environment where children feel safe to express their feelings, build self-confidence, and develop emotional resilience. Our monthly focus on values like compassion and kindness helps children better understand their emotions and relationships.

• Social Skills: Sensory play often involves collaborative activities that encourage communication, sharing, and teamwork. Through group activities and guided interactions, we help children learn the importance of cooperation and building meaningful friendships. Traits like problem-solving and gratitude are naturally integrated into these experiences.

• Cognitive Development: Hands-on sensory play stimulates problem-solving, critical thinking, and early math and literacy skills. Whether it’s sorting objects by color and shape, experimenting with water flow, or exploring cause and effect, sensory play makes learning interactive and engaging.

• Creativity: Sensory play inspires imagination and self-expression. From creating art with unconventional materials to building pretend scenarios in sensory bins, children have endless opportunities to explore and discover.
